About Heart and Core

Heart and Core is a twin-stick platforming brawler, having the player control two characters simultaneously, using half the controller for each character for a unique experience. Players fight and solve platforming puzzles moving through a ruined city in search of a way to fix their robot companion.

Overview

Over the duration of the game's development, I took the role of one of the game's producers. This included tasks such as leading team meetings, setting up and maintaining project management software such as Jira and Confluence, and preparing and planning the weekly sprints and schedule using a framework based on a combination of the Scrum and Spiral framework.

I also had the responsibility of sourcing, recording, and implementing audio for the game. This included not only programming various SFX within the Unreal Engine, but also scouting and recording voice actors for our game. We were privileged to have connections to the University of Central Florida's theater program and held auditions for various characters within our game. Our master's program (Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy of FIEA for short) provided us with a professional-grade recording booth where I recorded high quality voice work and learned the skills for in-person recording and directing.

In later stages of the game's development, I adjusted my focus into assisting in the level design department, working in set dressing sections of the level to help the game world feel more alive. The team and I were very proud, not just of the game itself, but for having what many of us felt was some of our best work up to that point in our work, but also for many of us, our first fully published game that was up and available for people to play on the Steam market place!
